Dear all

The “sharing dinner with our children” project that we have been undertaking for some time is really taking off. We have lots of parents and carers coming to share the dinner time experience which is great for the children and gives everyone the chance to see and partake in the food that we offer to them. Thank you to all those parents and carers who have come along– it’s the turn of year 3 next week on 3rd and 7th February.

Year 5 and 6 have taken part in a food nutrition workshop run by Chartwells, where the children have been learning about the “healthy plate” and making the correct food choices– these are all important life skills to support our children as they grow into adulthood.

Still on the subject of dinner time we have now appointed our “dining hall leaders”. These are children in year 5 who have applied for the posts and been successful. They will carry out a number of duties in the hall to support the children and make dinner time an enjoyable time for all. We will also be rewarding our children by issuing them a raffle ticket if they can show that they are able to abide by our dinner time “ golden rules”. These range from trying different foods, drinking more water and chatting sensibly during lunch. These tickets will be put into a draw in a tombola and then 6 tickets will be pulled out in assembly. Those 6 children will get the chance to eat dinner at a “ golden table” with either myself or a member of staff with golden cutlery, napkins and a special decorated table. We will begin this on Monday. We have lots of other ideas for lunch time and we have been learning a new clapping game as our “ craze for the week” to keep us all busy and active.

We have taken part in a few sporting events recently coming second overall in a year 5 and 6 athletics competition and 3rd in a year 3 and 4 equivalent yesterday– so “GO ST MICHAELS!!” Have a super weekend.
