Dear all,

We have had an amazing week this week with Book Week. As I write this on World Book Day, the school is full of Harry Potters, Where’s Wallys and Willy Wonkas to name a few. So much effort has been put in so thank you. We have had a great week with a whole school story being written, performance poetry, class book treasure hunts, a special Book Day Assembly by Year 4, book character potatoes being made and our grand Finale of having parents and carers in school on Friday at 3pm to share a book with their child. Its been a great week– many thanks to the staff and to Miss Smart for organising such an inspiring week. Next week is Science Week in the school when we have more excitement planned for the children

As you know we are now in the season of Lent. The children have brought their little collection boxes home for the Childrens Society but we are also starting a new venture: we will be supporting the work of CFNZ which stands for Children and Families in Need in Zimbabwe. The charity promotes the work of Fr. Tim Peacock with the poor in rural areas of Zimbabwe. We will be doing lots of simple fund raising activities throughout the year like Tag Days etc and hopefully twinning with one of the schools in Zimbabwe that Fr Tim works with. The parish of St Michael the Archangel are also fund raising and we will all hear more about the work that’s being done next week when Fr Tim’s sister Sue pops along to tell us more in an assembly.

Yesterday our school council and head boy and head girl visited the Houses Of Parliament– although everyone was drenched in the awful rain, they thoroughly enjoyed hearing about how Parliament works, the history of the building and seeing the Lords and Commons in session by sitting in the public gallery. I would like to thank Mrs Collins and Mrs Oddy who accompanied the children

Its Sports Relief next Friday– the children can wear sporty clothes instead of uniform in exchange for a donation

Have a good weekend

Mrs Katharine Sexton
