9th June 2017 Newsletter

Hello all,

Welcome back everyone for the last term of the academic year.

We have had a very busy week even though it was only 4 days! On Tuesday we had a visit from Skip2bfit who had us all skipping including the staff– well done Miss Ryan for getting the most skips in 1 minute! On a serious side we want to promote skipping as a daily activity in the school from September– however the children are all very keen now to count up their skips and beat their Personal Best so we are selling the skipping ropes for £5 each from the office.

Yesterday was the General Election and as part of British Values we had our own election here in school. The children in Y5 represented the main parties, they did some canvassing on Wednesday ie going round all the classes and other adults reading out their manifestoes and giving out badges– posters were set up around the school and we had our whole school debate with the respective leaders being questioned by the whole school. The children all went into our polling station ie Y5 classroom and voted putting their ballot papers into our ballot box. The result for St Michaels was UKIP 11, Lib Dem 16, Conservative 19, Green Party 44, Labour: massive landslide victory of 166. Democracy is one of our British Values but it is important that children realise that we are living in a free society with democracy with voting playing a very important aspect of that.

Year 6 are taking part in the Dickens Festival today and all look suitably dressed for the occasion wearing their Dickensian hats and bonnets.

Next week is Maths Week: there will be a special Maths Week assembly next Friday to which all parents and carers are welcome to attend.

Have a good weekend

Mrs K Sexton
