Here is a preview of SOME of the work we will be covering over the Term 3 and 4:

In English, our focus will be around the theme of World War 1. The features we will be using in our various text types are:

  • modal verbs
  • passive tense
  • cohesive devices
  • figurative and emotive language

We will be writing recount, diary entries, letters and poetry, based around the work of Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon.

In Maths, we will be covering:

  • angles
  • shape
  • word problems
  • fractions

We will be focusing on developing reasoning skills, and applying arithmetic skills to problems. These problems have many steps, and we will focus on the language used and which calculations we should be using.

  • Year 6 Explore the Great Outdoors with Go Ape!
Year Six went to Go Ape in Leeds. It’s a fun filled hour of canopy exploring, trail blazing and obstacles for all to enjoy. They had to negotiate crossings and finish on a high (literally) with one awesome zip wire.
  • Book Week (Monday 29th February- Friday 4th March)
This week we are celebrating ‘Book Week’ at St. Michael’s (Monday 29th February- Friday 4th March). World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March. We have planned and prepared many exciting things for the children.

In Physical Education, we are doing dance. We will be making motifs, with a theme around World War I. Children will be encouraged to create their own routines, using a range of skills.

In Art, we will be looking at portraits from a range of artist, focusing on the emotion evoked, as well as techniques used.

In S.P.a.G, we will be revising the grammar and punctuation already looked at in class, and ensuring the application of this in our writing.

In Religious Education our topic will be “Jesus, The Bread of Life”. This topic covers the book of Exodus and the different parts of the Mass, with a specific focus on the Eucharist.

Our History topic is World War I. We will be learning about the history of the war, and the effect the war had on the soldiers and their families.

In Science, we will learn about Light. This will explore how we see, how light travels, and will involve practical investigations involving light energy and movement.

Homework

As comprehension remains to be a focus in Year 6, we will be sending home texts and questions every week. The children now have a good understanding about the types of questions they are asked, however the stamina of children needs to be increased. Each comprehension we send home will have a time limit, set by the teacher. We also ask that you question your child on the nightly reading that they do. This could be recorded in their Reading Records.

Homework

Homework will be given out every Friday and reviewed every Tuesday. This will include a reading comprehension (which will have a time limit) and a mathematical challenge or problem-solving activity.

This is available from the Homework menu at the top of the page.
